待ちわびた春を謳歌するように、可憐な花を咲かせる虎尾桜。
樹齢600年を超える県内最大の巨桜が、新緑の福智山の中腹に凜として立っています。

Torao Sakura blossoms with lovely flowers as if celebrating the long-awaited spring. The largest cherry tree in the prefecture, over 600 years old, stands majestically on the middle slope of Mount Fukuchi, amidst the fresh greenery of the mountain.

　福智町にそびえる福智山の谷間で咲き誇る孤高の一本桜、虎尾桜。高さ約20メートル、幹周り3.8メートルの希少種エドヒガンで、町の天然記念物に指定されています。杉林の中で映える濃いピンク色の鮮やかな花と圧倒的な存在感で、毎年数千人の花見客を魅了。「虎尾桜を心配する世話人会」の保護で枯死寸前から蘇った物語でも有名です。

　日本の桜百選にも選ばれている虎尾桜を愛でるには、約700メートルの軽い登山ウォークが必要です。満開は3月下旬～4月上旬が予想されています。ぜひ今年も息をのむほどの虎尾桜の美しさを仰ぎ見てください。

Torao Sakura is a solitary cherry tree that blooms in the valley of Mount Fukuchi, towering over Fukuchi Town. It is a rare species of Edo Higan tree that is about 20 meters tall and has a trunk circumference of 3.8 meters, and is designated as a natural monument of the town. Its vivid deep pink flowers that stand out in the cedar forest and its overwhelming presence attract thousands of cherry blossom viewers every year. It is also famous for the story of how it was brought back to life from the brink of death thanks to the protection of the townspeople. To enjoy Torao Sakura, which has been selected as one of the 100 best cherry blossoms in Japan, you will need to take a light hike of about 700 meters. It is expected to be in full bloom from late March to early April.

福智山中腹の谷間、標高400メートルのところに咲く虎尾桜。福智山の「上野越登山口」から徒歩で20～30分、700メートル登ったところにあります。歩きやすい服装でご観賞ください。

Torao Sakura blooms in the valley on the middle slope of Mt. Fukuchi, at an altitude of 400 meters. It is a 20-30 minute walk from the "Uenogoe trailhead" of Mt. Fukuchi, and is 700 meters up the mountain. Please wear comfortable clothing when viewing.
